Did you know that thousands of movies, videos and TV shows can be accessed through your computer? Your laptop can be used as a portable television allowing TV viewing wherever you have Internet access. Things are even more interesting if your Internet connection is wireless. These are just a few of the benefits of watching TV on the computer and this article will give you four tips on how to do this. 1) There is an enormous quantity of classic films, old movies and TV shows as well as documentaries available for you to view in the public domain. When the copyrights of content expire, they are placed in the public domain and can be viewed or even sold by anyone. Try looking for this material on a search engine using phrases containing 'public domain' plus 'film' or 'video', etc. With just a bit of persistence, some real gems can be uncovered. 2) You can make your PC monitor display video signals in the same way that your TV does by buying and installing a TV tuner card into your computer. An added bonus to this is the capability of many tuner cards to record TV programs to your hard drive for instant playback. Because tuner cards input the same TV signals that your television does, no Internet connection is required for their use. The price range for a good TV tuner card can vary from $100 to about $200. 3) Of all the ways to watch movies on your PC, there is one method guaranteed to give you DVD quality: Insert a DVD into your CD-ROM drive! If you don't have a media player with this capability, you will have to find one that does. You can get a freebie at Realplayer.com. Look for and click on the 'Get it free' button. Follow the directions after this. After installing it, Insert a DVD, start up the player and open the 'Play' menu. Then click 'Play CD or DVD'. 4) One of the more popular ways to watch TV on the computer involves the use of software that allows you to watch satellite TV over the Internet. Since the TV shows come over the Internet, no satellite dishes or other hardware is required. All that you need is a PC and an Internet connection. The software promises access to 3000 or better channels world wide and will cost from $40 to about $100. Install the software once and you gain unrestricted access to thousands of channels for free. Hopefully this article has given you an idea of what's available to you through your PC and its connection to the Internet. The good news is that there is no end in sight to the explosion of Internet TV and video. If you haven't done so already, you really need to explore this great new medium.
