Tidbits of Advice for Pet Owners

By: Hal Stormi..

I highly recommend adding a pet to your family, even it if is just you. They are simply tremendous, but you have to make sure you understand their needs for it to be a good two way relationship. With that in mind, here are some tips to make you a good pet owner.

1. Puppy Chewing Problems – If your puppy is chewing everything in your house, you need to give them more toys to chew on. You can never have enough, so save your house.

2. Feeding Cats Lobster – If you are munching on lobster, don’t give it to your cat. Lobster with butter on it can block up their intestines.

3. Removing Burrs in Dog Fur – Dogs inevitably get all kinds of things in their fir. With burrs, the first step is to smash them with pliers. Next, rub oil into the fur and then pull the burr out.

4. Pets Marking Territory – If your pet urinates in the house, clean it up right away. Make sure to get the smell out or your pet will come back and do it again to mark its territory.

5. Chocolate and Cats – If you are eating, you might want to give chocolate tidbits to your little one. Chocolate is very harmful to cats and can easily result in a visit to the vet.

6. Dogs Urinate on Walks – If your dog is urinating frequently on walks, don’t worry. He or she is just marking their territory.

7. Pet Pain Killers – Pets have pain issues just like us. If the vet gives them pain medication, make sure you understand the instructions. You don’t want to go for a walk after your pet has just been medicated.

8. Nocturnal Pets – When getting pets for kids, make sure they are not nocturnal. Dogs and cats are fine, but other common pets are only active at night.

9. Musical Pet Baths – Play music when bathing a pet. Not heavy metal! Something more like Norah Jones. It will help them relax.

10. Pets Pulling Skateboards – Dogs inevitably end up as sled dogs if your kids have skateboards. You should know the leash is strangling them. Get a brace that goes around their chest instead.

The longer you have a pet, the more human they will become to you. A tight bond will inevitably be formed. To live up to your end of the bargain, make sure you understand the needs of your pet so you can have a long, happy time together.
