Ukraine is a unitary state located in the south of Central Europe. Every province which comprised into this country has got its own local authorities. The capital of Ukraine – Kiev and Sevastopol have the status of separate provinces too. Ukraine has a semi-presidential republic. It has set after an orange revolution in December 2004. Now the system of government in that country has a very interesting structure: the authority is divided between several branches of authority. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian boundary is the longest one it is from North and East. The country is in the main treeless plain with mountains in the Crimea and low Carpathian Mountains. The imaginary line which is considered to be the border between the eastern and the western parts of the country is river Dnieper. This river gives the huge amount of hydroelectric energy for Ukraine. Every winter there is much snow here but the climate is quite soft and temperature is not very low. The unique climate in summer consists of a great amount of rainy days, but there are a lot of shiny days too. Thanks to favorable conditions, Ukraine is famous for its quality soils and significantly developed agriculture. Actually, Ukraine is believed to be an agricultural region which constantly exports sugar, corn, vegetables and other produces to more than 110 countries. Kiev is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was founded approximately in the 5th century and has long and interesting history. All the Slavic civilizations have come from that city. It was founded as a small trade settlement but it has developed into the incredible modern megapolis. After it was conquered by Mongols in the 13th century and completely destroyed, it lost its eminence for a long period. However, industrial revolution assisted the city regain prominence. In period of the Soviet Union Kiev became the metropolis of Ukrainian Soviet Republic. In 2001 here lived 2,611,300 people in Kiev (census data). Females constituted 53 percents and men 47 percents. The majority of population is Ukrainians and Russians, but there is a huge amount of different ethnic groups which live there for several hundreds years. During the 70s and 80s, the city saw stable growth in population which in turn resulted in the development of real estate. After the independence there appeared new condominiums, chic restaurants and five star hotels. Ukraine economics gains power after the period of post Soviet problems. Today Ukraine is very respectable country which is known not as a part of the Soviet Union, but as independent country. Ukraine is also going to become a participant of WTO after it endorses the covenant.
