A diamond, more than any other gemstone, has the capability to produce the maximum amount of brilliance. Such brilliance that couples are looking for in engagement rings and wedding rings. The diamond is possibly the most sought after among all gemstones, being a symbol of wealth and success. Diamond derives its name from the Greek word adamas, which means "invincible". It is the anniversary gemstone for the 30th and 60th year of marriage and the birthstone of Aries (Ram): March 21 - April 19. True enough, a wedding ring that has diamond in it will last a lifetime. Aside from being the popular choice for engagement rings and wedding rings, diamond is said to have certain healing abilities, it has a great assistance for all brain diseases. It is beneficial in stomach area. Diamonds strengthen the owner's memory too. Some consider diamonds to have some mystical powers too. Diamonds give faith, purity, life, joy, innocence and repentance. They assist in developing concentration, being straight-forward and honest. Some believed that diamond loses its brilliance together with the health of the bearer and regains it only when the wearer gets well. Diamond is antidote to poison and is capable of detecting poison by exhibiting moisture on its surface. The value of each diamond is determined by 4 main criteria: 1. Cut - refers to the angles and proportions of a diamond. Cut is probably the most important, and most challenging, of the four Cs to understand. The brilliance of a diamond depends heavily on its cut. 2. Clarity - The fewer imperfections in a diamond, the greater the value as they say. Most diamonds contain some inner flaws, or inclusions, that occur during the formation process. The visibility, number and size of these inclusions determine what is called the clarity of a diamond. Diamonds that are clear create more brilliance, and thus are more highly prized, and price. 3. Colour - Diamonds are found in a range of colours, from light yellow or brown to no colour. Colourless diamonds are the most desirable since they allow the most refraction of light (sparkle). Off white diamonds absorb light, inhibiting brilliance. 4. Carat - A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured. Because large diamonds are found less commonly than small diamonds, the price of a diamond rises proportionally to its size. Diamonds are surely precious gift due to their incredible glamour, beauty and rarity. Diamonds are suitable gifts for any occasion. You just have to remember that if you really want a nice diamond, you must be prepared to pay a nice price too. Diamonds are indeed perfect for engagement rings and wedding rings.
