4) Sound quality - compared to the usual phones sound quality is not as good. But over the years this shortfall has been overcome. Some calls are clear but in general you may experience a small delay or lag when you speak to the other person.

As you can see broadband phone services do suffer certain limitations. However, the price benefits, especially for making long distance calls, outweigh most of the downsides.

As broadband telephony relies on your internet connection you are heavily dependent on your broadband provider to maintain it. The adage you get what you pay for is very apt and you must balance price with quality and technical support. As communication and internet technology advances you may go for the latest developments and product offerings but careful research before you buy is highly recommended.
