I have been extremely thrilled about my newfound knowledge of Body Talk. New York City, when I was there a few months ago, led me to a whole new perspective on wellness. I was privileged, during my stay in Manhattan, to take some workshops at The BodyTalk Center. I learned so much, and many people have asked me about BodyTalk since my return. I'm writing this article in hopes that people who want to know more about this new form of energy healing can learn a few of the basics here. What is BodyTalk, exactly? Well, the way I usually explain it is this: when an injury, illness or trauma is severe, the communication lines in our bodies can become congested as a result. The BodyTalk System uses a protocol of questioning and biofeedback to tap into our innate wisdom to identify where the problem is located and which channels need to be reconnected. Those channels are then repaired by the brain through a light tapping technique. This helps our bodies heal themselves quickly and completely. Here’s how a typical BodyTalk session might go: Phase One: Requesting Permission. You begin the session by lying face up, fully clothed, on a massage table with your arms at your sides. The practitioner stands beside you and asks your four centers of awareness--your physical body, your conscious mind, your unconscious mind, and your spiritual self--for permission to treat you. Each awareness center has the opportunity to deny permission. Each response is gauged through muscle testing. BodyTalk enhances accuracy by isolating the test to a strong muscle in your arm. Phase Two: Pinpointing the Problem. When permission has been secured, the practitioner asks the body a series of yes and no questions in order to locate the energy circuits that need to be re-balanced. “Are organs a priority?” (YES) “Liver?” (NO) “Lungs?” (YES)…and so on. The therapist follows the flow of answers until the exact location of the problem is identified. Phase Three: Re-linking the Lines. Next, the practitioner focuses on each problem area, placing the patient's hand over each spot in turn. The therapist then places her hand over each major body system, asking where the linkage needs to be made. “Link to the heart?” (NO) “Lungs?” (NO) “Bladder?” (YES)...For each requested linkage, the patient's hand remains on the identified area while the therapist touches the reflex point on the body that will link the system. Then, they lightly tap the patient’s head and heart. Phase Four: Tapping and Breathing. Tapping the patient is done lightly on the top of the head, and on the sternum over the heart. Tapping the head directs the brain to that particular linkage, and asks it to re-establish communication there. Tapping the heart signals it to the repaired link, and asks it to make the link permanent. In traditional Chinese medicine, the heart is the body's central coordinator and energy organizer. While the practitioner taps, the patient takes two cycles of very deep breaths to acknowledge and incorporate the corrections into the wisdom of the body. Hopefully, you can find a BodyTalk practitioner near you, but should you ever be in New York, I highly recommend a visit to The BodyTalk Center. In terms of energy healing, New York City is a veritable hub, and with the addition of The BodyTalk Center, there are no limits to the knowledge and life lessons that can be gained here.
