Monday, September 10, 2007. New Delhi. Legends of India Baithak series had Payal Ramchandani perform a Kuchipudi dance recital in obeisance to Lord Shiva in Jagdeeswaraya Namay Sivah . In an environment where classical dance is fast yielding space to a culture that is far more westernized, Payal’s dance performances come in as a whiff of fresh air. Payal Ramchandani, in obeisance to the almighty Lord, presented Jagdiswaraya Namoh Sivah, the various fleeting images of Shiva as Ardhanariswara, Jathadhari, Neelakantha, Mritunjaya as the destroyer of Madana and others in Kuchipudi dance form. In the ancient Ardhanariswara concept shows Shiva and Parvati together in one image to signify the male and female harmony complementing each other. Payal began her recital with the Ardhanariswara slokas from Shiva Puran depicting the manly attributes of Shiva and the feminine grace of Parvati. . In Madana dahana from the Mahakavi Kalidasa’s Kumarsambhavam, depicts the story of Kamdev being burnt into ashes by lord Shiva. While Shiva is in deep meditation, Parvati offers her Puja to the lord and the God of love Madana tries to distract his attention when finally he tries to melt the lord’s heart towards Parvati with his flowery arrows, Shiva,s penance is disturbed, incensed, he opens his third eye and burn Madana to ashes. Shiva Stuthi This song beautifully describes the different attributes of Lord Shiva.. The conclusion is rhythmical steps rendered on the edge of a brass plate as per the tradition of Kuchipudi dance Payal concluded her recital with the well known verse in praise of Lord Shiva describing him as the one whose body movement has created this whole universe. The one whose speech is the sound or dhvani, Sun and Moon as his ornaments, to that Satvik Purush the devotee bows and prays. Payal manifests herself in poses and movements, making harmony with the rhythm and investing the presentation with a special charm. Her emotive ability with subtle facial expressions and foot movement, sensitive rhythmic response and dexterity has endeared her to the dance lovers who eagerly look forward to her performances. Payal has participated in several festivals in India and abroad. Legends of India' was conceptualized and put together as an ambitious plan for promoting Indian Art Forms in 1999. The objective of the society is to build knowledge and awareness among the members of the public and to propagate the rich Indian cultural heritage and its traditional art forms.
