Learn About Glass Baby Bottles

By: James Dalton

For women who did not want to breastfreed in the past, glass baby bottles offered a suitable alternative. They were the fixture of any parent who had a newborn child. Glass bottles were rendered obsolete with the introduction of plastics in production. This article will examine why glass baby bottles are making a resurgence and the benefits and disadvantages of using them.

There are many people who feel as if glass feeders for babies are the best thing and should be the only thing that they use. This is a result of people having the view that glass is an excellent candidate to be recycled as well as it is environmentally friendly. For people who are concerned with renewable resources then this is the product for you. The glass bottles are also very easy to clean and are very dish washer safe. For parents who often lose bottles, they need not worry about their glass bottles retaining the rancid smell like their plastic counterparts. Unlike plastic, glass is able to retain heat and keep warm longer. If placed in extremely hot water, then it can be sterilized very easily

The glass baby bottles are not without their flaws and there are some cons associated with the use of these bottles. Another con associated with the bottles is that since they are made out of glass, they have the potential to break very easily. Breakage and glass shattering is a possibility if a baby was to hold a bottle and drop it. People who are against its use also state that if the bottle has a crack or a chip, that some of the shards could make its way into what the baby is eating. Plastic wins in this case because it is much cheaper than glass, by all most two times the price.

There is one controversy that is causing resurgence in the use of glass feeders. Generally the majority of plastic bottles are created using polyurethane; however there is research that is on going, showing that BPA, a chemical used in the production is finding its way into the childrens foods. The milk and formula contained in these bottles have shown traces of BPA. While this is alarming, people are not sure of the long term effects of this chemical in childrens food. A move that some parents are doing is going back to the glass as this will reduce the risk that plastic bottles poses to their children. The change from plastic to glass will be more wide spread once people become aware of this issue.

As a quality product, the glass baby bottles are seeing their popularity increase. People are taking the time to make sure that their babies have the best product available. There are some pros and cons associated with the use of these products, but the parents should weigh the risks and see the benefits to their child if they used the product. Parents choice to switch is aided by the controversy of BPA Plastic bottles.
