Is There A Creatine Danger - Is It Real or Is It Hype?

By: Craig Doyle

For thousands of years men have tried various things to enhance their performance. As far back as the Romans, when athletes of the time used various herbs, botanicals, and potions to enhance their athletic performance, to modern day scientific labs, man has searched for ways to build a healthier, stronger body in a shorter period of time. It's just the way of man. Some of those attempts have proven to be dangerous, but in today's bodybuilding world, one of the most important questions concerns Creatine danger. Is Creatine dangerous?

It was in 1993 that Creatine came onto the bodybuilding scene - although Creatine has actually been around since the beginning of time, considering that it is a natural substance found in the body. Over time, Creatine became known as the legal and safe answer to steroids. By this time, of course, there had been so much hype about so many different products - most of which proved to be false - that the general public, and athletes in particular, were skeptical.

Fortunately, there were still athletes willing to search for the answer to the wonderful results of steroids, without all of the horrible, dangerous side effects. Because of those athletes, it was proven that Creatine really did live up to the promises that the scientific community had given concerning its use.

As in any area, however, there are those who always shun the positives, and seek out the negatives, and the use of Creatine has been no different. Several years after the bodybuilding community accepted Creatine as the legal and safe alternative to steroids, reports started coming out that using Creatine was dangerous - and that it caused muscle cramps. There were even questions about whether the deaths of some athletes were related to Creatine usage. As usual, panic erupted, and the great Creatine controversy began.

Fortunately, scientists and world renowned physicians looked into the great Creatine debate, and their findings have been proven over and over again. This is good news for the bodybuilding community. It has been found and proven, over and over, that Creatine is safe and effective. There is documented, published information concerning research that proves this, not to mention the look and feel of the athletes themselves.

However, there is absolutely no published data that reflects any of the negative things you may have heard about Creatine. There is no published data that proves that Creatine causes muscle cramping, kidney problems, or death. The kidney scare comes from the fact that the use of creatine does increase the output of urine, and that urine is rich with creatine. This, however, does not harm your health in any way….or your kidneys. The same is true for the liver - it doesn't hurt your liver in any way. However, if the creatine that you ingest is undisolved, it may cause you to experience abdominal discomfort for a little while.

So, is there any real Creatine Danger? The only danger that concerns Creatine is misinformation. Creatine is safe, and effective, and this has been proven time and again, with research that has also looked into the possibility that creatine is unsafe, without any positive results of that claim.
