How To Convince Drug Victims To Get Treatment

By: Chris Channing..

There are many different types of drugs that society uses on a daily basis- and much of this is due to an addiction. But getting drug treatment isn't going to help if the victim doesn't want to go, or even consider getting help for their addiction. If that is the case, there are several techniques that can help aid the process.

The classic intervention method is to simply get a group of family members and friends, and have them each express their love for the individual. If at all possible, it is always a good effect to try and get each member to cite a small speech on how they care for the individual, and how their life is being thrown away. This is a very good tactic that has high success rates.

Not all drug addicts will be persuaded simply by speeches and such. In this case, it is good to instead tell the victim on how the drugs have and will affect their life. If the victim has dropped out of school, chosen not to pursue higher education, or has even lost a job- this is good to mention and to prove that drug use will bring their world crashing down around them.

Seeking help for drug treatment sometimes takes a little more persistence on the part of family and friends. In many cases, it is best to exhibit tough love where applicable. Cutting off any types of benefits that family and friends allow the drug victim is a very good idea. This can be anything from car rides, a place to live, allowances, and the prospect of borrowing money. Whatever the scenario, cutting these benefits off will usually persuade them to seek help.

In the end, the best option is to describe how drug treatment programs have affected other drug addicts of the past. Calling a local drug treatment center may prove useful in obtaining a few examples. If possible, it might also be a good idea to have one of the recovered drug addicts make a small speech or appearance in order to influence the current drug addict to seek drug treatment help.

Above all else, always give examples of how someone you know or examples of celebrities who didn't choose to seek drug treatment. In most cases, it turns out that many celebrities lose their fame and fortunes. If the drug addict sees that not seeking drug treatment help will also make them lose their ambitions, the change is more likely to take place.

Drug treatment programs are available in even smaller towns and cities- so finding a worthy program shouldn't take too long. The real problem is getting the drug addict in question to admit they have a problem and to seek help from a drug treatment program. If all else fails, be sure to exhibit tough love in hopes that in due time the drug addict will realize their mistake and opt for drug treatment.
