Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance made in the liver and found incertain foods, such as food from animals, like dairy products (whole milk),eggs and meat. Cholesterol is carried by two types of proteins. Cholesterol is naturally produced by your liver and helps carry fat to parts of your body that need it for energy and repairs. Stay away from foods that are high in cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fat, all of which raise bad cholesterol levels and your risk of developing heart disease. Reducing your cholesterol level lessens your chance for having a plaque explode and cause a heart attack. For such people the battle against cholesterol is never-ending because they are prone to heart disease. In fact, lifestyle changes may have a greater impact on reducing risk of heart disease and stroke than does medication alone. High cholesterol is only one of many risk factors for heart attack and stroke. Although high cholesterol is a strong risk factor for heart disease, it can be managed.
