Get started with RC Helicopters

By: andysmith1035@googlemail.com

RC Remote Control hellies have become a very common radio control toy lately and they are available in a variety of prices and models.

beginners can sometimes become confused as to what RC Toy to start with. With many more options on top of those you can see how confusing it is for beginners to get started.

Firstly the thing we have to discuss is what sort of power source is the one to goo with.

As a new radio control toy pilot, then the best power source for you is electric.

Electrically powered chopper engines are still very fast, but yet still quiet, and can manoeuvre just as well as a full sized petrol powered one! Another main attraction of electric helicopters is the fact that you don’t have to handel any messy fuels or with tuning the engine at all. in adition fuel is more expensive and electricity is much cheaper.

If you are a beginner then I definitely recommend that you get an electric powered radio control toy and then work towards a glow powered one.

Glow engines have been in RC airplanes for some time now, and have become more popular in helicopters.

If you want to really progress with the RC helicopter hobby, then a glow engine chopper is perfect for action, constructing, maintaining and flying! You will be able to personalize your RC helicopter exactly the way you want it, change things such as hover time and rotor speed.

If you get a feel for your RC helicopter, and have everything changed perfectly, your RC helicopter will respond just the way you want it and not the way the factory decided it should.

The next challenge you as a new helicopter pilot will experience is experiencing how to fly their RC helicopter.

This might be big problem since a helicopter is the hardest aerial vehicle to control and having a smaller version of one doesn’t make things easier.

If you have no RC helicopter flying experience and you try to fly it, most likely it will plumit to the ground. To save yourself heart ache you need to know how to properly construct and control it.

I would recommend that you read the instruction manual, front to back, before you attempt to put it together and when you actually do, make sure you tighten every bolt and include every screw. Remember that just one missing screw or loose bolt can throw the whole RC helicopter off and send it falling to the ground because it is unbalanced.

Learning how to fly a RC helicopter is a challenge within itself, and could never be fully taught over the internet.

The best way to progress is to get real flying experience with an instructor at first, and then on your own later. You can find an instructor at your local RC helicopter club. RC airplane clubs are most common and exist in just about every city, and since most of them will have experience with planes they most likely will also know how to fly RC model helicopters too.
