Marriage is a union of two people that starts with a ceremony that is called a wedding; our concept of a marriage has seen many adjustments over the last few years. The ceremony is an opportunity to perform a traditional service and celebrate with friends and family. The marriage certificate must be signed at the end of the service for the law to legitimize the couple's relationship. The names bridegroom and bride extend around the world; once they are married they known as the wife and husband. Weddings in a Church As soon as you look outside of your own race, religious and social group, the wedding tradition can become very complex. Although it may seem like the world has turned away from the Christian religion generally, it has not stopped the popularity of a Church ceremony. These ceremonies are usually referred to as white weddings and are considered formal or semi-formal in the United Kingdom, Ireland and United States, as well as some other Commonwealth countries. Double Ceremonies A different type of wedding occasion often more difficult to arrange is where two couples are married simultaneously. This type of ceremony is often organized by a person that has a sibling that wants to get married at the same time. Destination Wedding Ceremonies Marriages in foreign countries are called destination weddings where guests can arrive either just before the ceremony or actually travel with the couple; destination weddings automatically conjure up exotic countries but it could just as easily be a themed wedding in Las Vegas to qualify for that title. Weekend Break Weddings Two day or weekend weddings are a great way to extend the ceremony and festivities as an increasing number of people are finding out. Those with a themed element can also be very successful and the activity can be either built into the day or over the course of a weekend. For many people that have outdoor interests this can be a lot of fun and the guests can stay for the weekend with them to extend the occasion. Getting Married on the Internet Still in the early stages of evolution is the internet wedding where the couple is married online; planning is made easy however, with online guides that list reliable and friendly vendors. This can prove a useful tool where relatives and friends from around the world can see an online wedding take place in real time without actually being there! Town Hall Services Local civil authority services are called civil weddings as they do not take place in a church and must be performed by a locally elected or appointed official. Although it may sound clinical, civil ceremonies usually make no reference to God. Often, this type of service will take place in a judge's chambers, town or city hall or any other specially designated place. This article has only provided information on few types of weddings; there are actually many many more types through out the world, and some could be considered rather strange by our standards.
