For the beginner knowing what equipment to get and how much to spend on each item of equipment can be difficult. There are certain items of equipment that are worth spending money on and certain items of equipment that you can make drastic savings on without necessarily losing a great deal of quality. This being the case it is difficult to know where to start if you are new to DJing. The best thing that you can do is to read as much as you possibly can about DJ equipment. Once you have a rough idea of what you are after then set yourself a budget. Once you have set yourself a budget you can attack the internet with the intention of buying the kit and this is where you can research the best items. The internet will enable you to compare prices from thousands of different companies and as a result you will be able to find great deals on DJ equipment if you look carefully. Playing device The first thing that you need to get is a playing device from which you can play your chosen music. There are a number of different types of playing device and your choice will depend on a number of different things. You may be looking to play your vinyl collection in which case a vinyl record player is essential. If you are looking to DJ using CDs then you will need a CD player and finally if you are looking to DJ using MP3 tracks then you will need a device that can store and play these digital files. Most DJs will utilise two playing devices and these can be used together. This usually means that the DJ can cue up a song to play after the initial song has finished. This can enable the DJ to mix tracks seamlessly so that the music continues without a noticeable pause. This is obviously a great thing for DJs that want to keep a crowd dancing and it is an indication of the quality of the DJ when the tracks can be matched seamlessly. Amps and Speakers Once you have a playing device you will need to find something to play your music through. You need an amp and speakers to make the sound loud enough for your audience. There are a vast range of different speakers on the market and the general rule is that when you purchase speakers you get what you pay for. The more expensive speakers are invariably better quality and as a result it can be a difficult area to save money on. That being said you can get a reasonably good set of speakers without breaking the bank and they are a very simple item to update in the future if you manage to save more money. Headphones Headphones are a key item of DJ equipment as they allow the DJ to listen to the track that they are preparing whilst the track that is playing can be heard by the crowd. As a result it is important to find a headphone that completely cuts out ambient noise. This means that it is much better to avoid in-ear headphones. Headphones are worth investing in so spend a bit of money for a good pair and you can keep the same pair for the rest of your career.
