Graduate professionals are often so focused on their particular job duties and departmental responsibilities that they don’t feel they have time to meet others in the company. However, graduates will find that by meeting just a few people outside of their department, they are creating a more familiar atmosphere in the workplace. Whether it is a quick hello or a chat before heading for home, expanding a colleague base in the workplace is never a bad idea. Finally, the improvement of office communications technology has created an all new office etiquette for graduates to learn. Whether it is instant messaging, emails, or phone calls, every worker has a particular preference when it comes to communicating with colleagues. During the course of chats and meetings, graduates should take note of any pet peeves that colleagues may have about a particular communication method. Learning personal communication preferences can help make the job easier for graduates.
