One of the most basic and one of the fastest selling types of model planes is the control line plane. In this type, the plane is fixed with two lines, which could be almost 150 feet in length. The other end is to be held by you in the form of a 'C' shaped handle. The lines are attached to the top and bottom of the 'C' handle and by changing the angle of the handle you can control the plane, which will be moving around in a circle along with you as the center. By changing the angle of your handle, you control the plane's wings elevators and hence you can control the up and down motion of the plane thereby executing a sudden climb or loop or dive. These model planes can be built heavier than RC [Remote Control] planes, since they have to be controlled by the lines and can also get upto 175-mph speeds. Normally, they are made of Balsa wood. This offers hours of fun where you can execute all types of aerial stunts without losing sight of your plane. This arrangement also enables you to fly your plane in a small space as compared to a RC plane, which normally requires an open ground. The other type of model planes is the RC plane, which does not have any physical connection with the 'pilot'. All you need is an electric or gasoline motor to power your plane and a Remote Control transmitter to control the plane. This type of a plane has to be built lighter so that it can stay in the air for a longer period of time. Normally these planes are made of tough foam with a plastic layer underneath the plane so as to protect it in case of a rough landing or a crash. These planes and their remote controls are also costly as compared to 'line' operated planes. Electric planes are silent compared to 2-stroke or 4-stroke gasoline engines. You can start by buying a cheap plane with a simple remote control. Once you learn the basics, you can make your plane perform various types of stunts such as rolls, loops and inverted flying. You can then progress to faster planes with high-end remote controls. Fast planes require a high degree of skill to operate and care should be taken that your plane keeps clear of any object where it could crash and cause damage. So, this is a brief description of the different types of model aircraft available in the market. Assembling your own aircraft will provide hours and hours of fun filled activity and the enjoyment of seeing your efforts take shape in front of your eyes is difficult to put into words. Once your aircraft is ready, the other fun part of this activity starts and flying your aircraft can take your imagination to new heights. Imagine hearing this line, 'Flight control to pilot of that snazzy red plane-Sir, your aircraft is cleared for take off'.
