Coffee - What You Need For Making A Great Cup

By: Allison Thompson

Coffee as a beverage is extremely popular the world over today. In fact for many it has become a necessity and the caffeine provides them with an extra kick to get their day moving along. However for those who really love their coffee nothing tastes better than one that is freshly made and the aroma that comes with it will want a person salivating for more. Today getting a cup of freshly brewed coffee is extremely easy to achieve as there are literally hundreds of coffee shops opening up on every main high street each day.

However if you really want to produce a great tasting coffee every time when you start brewing it up you need to use only the freshest and finest ingredients possible. But when it comes to buying the right kind of coffee not only does your local supermarket have a ready supply of coffee beans and grounds in store, but there are lots of speciality shops now open as well. It is important that the coffee beans you use in your coffee are not more than 6 months old as unfortunately as coffee grows older it does not improve with age compared to a good quality bottle of wine.

There are different types of coffee and coffee beans you can now get for making great tasting coffee. One of the most favored of all these is the Arabica which is picked by hand. Yet as with all gourmet coffees now available the price may be somewhat prohibitive to some people and they will rather spend money on a more commercial brand instead. But one of the biggest disadvantages to using commercial rather than gourmet coffee is that you lose out on flavor and texture.

Where as gourmet coffee is hand picked, the commercial grade varieties is harvested through use of a machine. This often results in not just the beans but also twigs and leaves being able to make their way through the various processes that will be used to produce ground coffee at the end.

There are many different types of gourmet coffee a person can now consider buying and are grown in various locations around the world. Some will have been grown on low lying land whilst other coffee beans will have been cultivated on a mountainside. But as you will soon learn and once you have tried a number of different coffees each of them has their own unique flavor and texture. But not only is it where the coffee is grown but how the beans are roasted and processed will determine just exactly what kind of taste and texture they have once you start making coffee with them. In many cases the roasting process is the final stage which will ultimately determine how full and rich a flavor the coffee will have.

In order for a person to produce a really great cup of coffee it is important that they start from scratch. What this means is that you buy the beans and then grind them yourself at home. Therefore you will need to purchase a coffee grinder; you can either buy a manual or electric one. Personally I prefer using a manual one as it helps to prevent loss of the oils in the bean which help to provide the flavor in the coffee. Also you need to think about buying yourself a good quality coffee maker as well. A quick search of the internet or you could go to our site mentioned below where we provide advice on what are some of the best coffee makers available.

However before you actually start to make your first cup of coffee with your new equipment it is important that you clean it out thoroughly and allow it to dry. Once your coffee maker is ready you first need to feel up the reservoir with cold (not hot or warm water) and then if you are grind down the beans. When making coffee you should allow 2 tablespoons of your coffee grinds for each cup of water in order to make a great tasting cup of coffee. If you do not add enough or too much coffee per cup of water you will find that it is either too weak in taste or is too strong or bitter.

So if you really want to save yourself money and still be able to have great tasting coffee similar to what you can get in places like Starbucks. Then it may be worth your while investing a little of your money in a good quality coffee machine and grinder and purchase the best type of coffee beans that you can possibly afford.
