A heavy data loss is a nightmare for any large organization. The need to get back their data is urgent as data loss can cause great loss to the company. Their best formulated plans and scheduled business meetings can get cancelled resulting in loss of money and time. Data loss is most often the result of hard drive crash due to physical or mechanical malfunctioning. A crash is said to take place when the system fails to detect the disk, although disk is detected strange noises emit from the system, the head is unable to read from the disk or when the disk has many physical bad sectors present. Strange sounds originating from the hard drive usually means that the head is unable to read the platters correctly and goes into the seek pattern causing the sounds. No further recovery attempts are to be made if clicking sound is heard as running the platters in a damaged state can only increase loss of data. This can make data recovery near impossible. A HDD repair and data recovery is done in a clean room facility at most data recovery companies where they remove and replace the damaged head and other components. It is worth remembering that a physical noise needs to be addressed through physical data recovery operations. Damaged hard drives with clicking sounds need a specialized lab environment with personnel having the required technical expertise to recover from any data loss. If a disk is not detected by the motherboard, it is said to suffer from logical defects. The system can also display errors due to hard disk failures, faulty software, virus attacks, improper shutdown, partition corruption etc. Data loss can also occur due to unstable partition table, wrong media type inaccuracy, drive defects, missing file or missing sectors. Any crash that occurs due to boot/partition corruption is repairable; When malfunctioning is suspected, it is best that you switch off the computer at once. The file deleted accidently does not disappear from the system, only its access from FAT/MFT files are changed. The deleted file if it is not overwritten can be retrieved from the file now stored in different places. More data damage can be caused by using the fdisk utility when the system does not boot. There is a false belief among the public in general that a new partition created by using the fdisk can restore the data lost or damaged. Hard disk data recovery has to be carried out in special sanitized clean room environments. It is generally the extent of damage on the disk that determines the amount of data recoverable. If the platter surfaces are without too many scratches then the data can be restored without fear of any loss. The seal of the hard drive can be broken only in a completely dust free labs as specks of dirt and dust can assume mountainous proportions if they get lodged between the micron thick distance between the disks. Therefore such specialized tasks are best entrusted to professionals in the data restoration field.
