Can I keep a credit card after bankruptcy?

Yes, it is possible that you keep some credit cards after bankruptcy. Yes, those cards that you don't own money on. Cards with a 0 balance don't have to be listed in your bankruptcy, unless the card issuer runs periodic credit check-several do-they won't know you filed bankruptcy. I have had some clients pay down one or two card so they know they can keep the cards before they file, so they will have credit.

This does mean though that if you don't keep up with the payments they will cancel the card without much thought of past history. Credit card companies do have the right to cancel the credit cards without notice as a precaution.

Can I get a credit card after bankruptcy?

The answer is usually yes, and usually right away. In today's competitive credit environment the answer is most likely. These will be some cards that will be sent to you in the mail before they know you have filed. There will be some credit card issuers that will know you have filed for bankruptcy that will send you card applications. You might be shocked at the interest rate and limits, but you can begin to rebuild your credit. The best policy with the new card is the same as with the old: pay it off in full each month. That way, an exhorbitent interest rate doesn't really matter.
