By: Stephen Long

Satellite Internet services implement telecommunications satellites in Earth's orbit to provide broadband Internet access to consumers. Satellite Internet services are used in locations where DSL and cable high speed Internet access is not available and in locations which move frequently. Satellite Internet service enables you to surf the Internet with a broadband connection that is much faster than dialup. If you live out in the country and other high speed Internet options are not available then satellite Internet access may be worth considering.

Broadband: Internet access that is called "broadband" is high speed Internet access versus the traditional dial-up Internet services. There are a number of Internet speeds that have been used in the "labeling" of broadband. These web speeds are usually between 64 kbit/s up to 1. Broadband Internet has a high rate of downloads speed. Each of the availble high-speed alternatives have their own pros and cons.

Usually satellite Intenet access has a very high "lag time" when compared to other broadband services. There are times when you may lose your Internet connection during storms or solar sunspots. The LNB on the satellite must be accurately tuned into the satellite for the best connection. There are some companies that have (FAP) Fair Access Policies that limit heavy Internet usage. Satellite Internet access is not recommended for Voice over Internet phone sevices.

Speed: There are companies offering surfing speeds up to 24 Mbit/s. Upload speeds are limited by the user's dial-up modem, with the excetion of two way systems. Upload speeds rarely exceed one megabit per second and latency can be as much as one second. High speed satellite Internet service is the answer for consumers and businesses that want a high speed Internet connection but live in rural areas outside the area of local DSL and Cable providers.

Currently, most satellite Internet providers offer their customers download speeds ranging from 512 Kbps to 1.5. The speed of satellite Internet is similar to other high speed Internet services, and just like cable and DSL, its always on. Internet connection speeds that are offered by satellite internet providers is amazing, especially when you compare what satellite internet is capable of to what dialup is capable of handling

Available: If you can get cable or DSL, then one of those should always be your first choice for high speed Internet access. If you have a clear view of the southern sky, then you should be able to receive satellite Internet access. The truth is, you should only consider signing up for Satellite Internet when there is no broadband cable or DSL Internet available in their area. That in mind, we'd recommend seeing if these other broadband solutions are available where you live, before going the direction of satellite service.

Satellite Internet access is the high speed answer for consumers and businesses that want a fast Internet connection but live outside the area of local DSL and Cable providers. Consider implementing satellite Internet service if you live in rural america.
