Surely you've tried advertising on a classified ads site? No, never? Then you probably don't realise how much you are missing out on potential buyers, eager to buy what you have to offer. Well, you are not the only one, believe me. In fact, many businesses, large, medium and small have never considered classified ads as part of their marketing strategy either. No, never. Yet they should. Classified ads sites are a potential opportunity not to be missed. It's a huge and ever-growing part of the Internet, with some major players in the field able to generate enormous amounts of daily traffic. Take Gumtree, for example, one of the giants in the market. It started out as a small local classified ads and community site in London, some eight years ago. Now it boasts a million visitors every month. Amazing. Wouldn't you benefit from a little Gumtree traffic? Sure you would. There's another player not to be ignored. Loot is different from many other online classified sites in that it combines both the print world and the Web, all under the umbrella of Associated Newspapers, owners of the Evening Standard, Metro, the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday, amongst other titles. Loot has been in the buying and selling business for over 20 years with a print and online reach of some 2 million every month. Around half a million people visit loot.com alone. But it doesn't stop there. For there are other major online classified ads sites which you would be mad to ignore. For example, there's friday-ad.co.uk, classifiedads.com and vivastreet.co.uk, which alone displays around a half million ads at any one time. Incredible numbers and incredible traffic which anyone can make use of. That's only a few of the top sites. There are many more. Equally, there are hundreds more lesser sites, residing lower down in the pecking order. They shouldn't be ignored either although traffic to these sites is much harder to gauge. As with just about all classified ads sites, whether a minor or major player, the sign-up/ad placement process is usually quick, easy and free. So there's no excuse for signing up with just one site. Sign up with two, three, four, 10, 20 - it shouldn't take long to do. The combined traffic alone should make the whole effort worthwhile. And talking of "minor" players, why not try my own classified ads site - freebieads.co.uk? It's been up and running for about a year now. Hopefully, at some point in the future, it will be able to hold its own next to the big boys. Time alone will tell. It attracts about 5,000 visitors monthly and has about 500 ads at any one time at the moment. Yes, not in the Gumtree, Loot or Vivastreet league. However, were not these major players minor players at one time? To finish up on a lighter note or two, classified ad sites reflect every day life - right? If that is the case, looks like we live in a weird world, judging by some of the ads to be found on the typical classified ad site. On Loot, for example, bizarre items sold have included a Mr Whippy ice cream van, Australian shark cartilage, manure, a pencil sharpener collection, an organic wormery and a life size dalek. And classified ads attract all kinds of people - including British royalty, it would seem. Apparently, the Duchess of Kent sold her second-hand fridge through Loot in 2004. There you have it, the ultimate proof. If classified ads are good enough for the British aristocracy, then surely they are good enough for the likes of you and me, too? You bet they are. So what are you waiting for? Get posting those ads!
