If you are like most people, you have spent hundreds (maybe even thousands) of dollars on your computer system. Also, like many people today, you may rely on it heavily to keep your life organized. Many people store all of their important personal information on their computers. Millions of people use their computers to perform all facets of banking including deposits, withdrawals and paying bills. In the blink of an eye, spyware can invade your computer and cause more havoc than you might have realized was possible. Well, spyware is that stranger and in many cases can cause harm to you, your credit score and to your computer equipment. Each time you log onto the internet spyware may be performing its dastardly deeds. The main purpose of most spyware is to track the sites you browse or visit. That information is then sold to advertisers who can then bombard you with emails about their products, special offers, etc. Very often when spyware is operating, so is a companion adware adware is responsible for the relentless and annoying pop-up ads you may have experienced. What type of information is being gathered? Well, some of it can be rather harmless; advertisers collect your email address so they can add you to their mailing list. While not harmful, this can still be bothersomeyou may get hundreds of unsolicited emails daily once spyware shares your email address with their list of solicitors. Spyware can gain access to your email inbox and some programs can decipher your personal passwords thats a frightening thought. Computer viruses can be attached to spyware that can cause serious damage to your computer. Among the most popular and effective antispyware programs are: CW Shredder, Windows Defender, Ad-Adware 2007 and Spybot Search and Destroy. Each of these extremely good programs is available for free download on the internet. There are programs that are available for purchase ranging in price from $39.95 to $99.95. These programs, however, seem to have little more to offer than the free ones you can download. Remember to download the antispyware on each of your computers. If you have more than one in your home, download the program to each. The same goes for office computers (though you might check with your office administrator before downloading any software) and any laptops that you or your family may own. Those who regularly use Microsoft Windows applications might want to consider Windows Defender. This antispyware allows you to examine Windows Start-up programs in an instant. CW Shredder is highly praised because it has a number of settings and capabilities that other programs do not. It is just plain good common sense to take advantage of the wonderful antispyware that is available. Download the program you select to each of your computers and rest assured you have added security.
