Funny thing happened on the way to the White House! If you will recall, the first stop on the fixed race for the presidential election was Iowa. Iowa is a place where they grow a lot of corn! And some politicians can sure be corny! It would make a healthy man ill to observe this circus of clowns who claim to be the best choice for the highest office in America come out with statements which positioned them as the longest, strongest supporter of corn derived Ethanol at the time when they were trying to win the Iowa caucus. The issue of corn and Ethanol,specifically, in Iowa is not just another issue it is HUGE. Well sorry folks, but I say f*ck Iowa! But the politicians were not quite so honest. In the case of John McCain, he did a total flip flop. Prior to Iowa, McCain was known for his antipathy towards ethanol and for saying that ethanol’s effect was to actually raise gas prices. McCain had been quoted as saying that ethanol made America more energy dependent. He has even questioned the science behind making fuel from corn - contending that ethanol provides less energy than the fossil fuels consumed to produce it. "Ethanol is a product that would not exist if Congress didn't create an artificial market for it. No one would be willing to buy it," McCain said in November 2003. So how could the same man say, just prior to the Iowa Caucus, "I support ethanol and I think it is a vital alternative energy source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but its greenhouse gas reduction effects," So what am I getting at? There are millions of people who might live or die, a planet thrives or chokes, the global economy can boom or bust to no small degree based upon what political officials and leaders decide about future energy sources. And Ethanol is a very bad choice. What I have researched on ethanol tells me that the result of a widespread use of it as a primary fuel source could very possibly include MORE toxic emissions and climate change, widespread hunger much worse than we have it now, skyrocketing prices of other crops and food in general and other environmental impacts that can be quite ghastly. So this is why I say that Ethanol and alternative energy sources is not something to play around with in order to get elected. The real hazard confronting humanity as we move further into the new millennium is that we could convulsely grasp for solutions in our hysteria about global warming which will muck things up even worse than they are right now. But since that is the scene and the people in charge are not going to do anything sensible about it, that makes it more urgent for you and me to take responsibility. After all, it is OUR planet and it is OUR lives and there IS something that can be done about it! While no individual can control the price of diesel fuel, any car owner can put themselves more at cause and increase their gas mileage In case you are not familiar, it's true, safely splitting Hydrogen from water to produce a more optimum energy source is already a viable solution that is available for us all.
