Recent study has revealed that about 80% of population (about 4 out of 5 people) has ever suffered from acne. It is believed that acne breakout is caused by several factors mainly hectic lifestyle, poor eating diet, climate, acne-induced drugs and heredity. There are several types of acne ranging from mild to severe acne. Do you know that you do not need a strong acne medicine to clear up your mild acne? Yes, you read that right. As a mild acne sufferer, you can have clear skin within few days without taking acne medicine. This is due to the fact that our body has the immunity to fight against bacteria which are causing havocs on our skin. The only thing you can do is establish a routine facial regime using comedogenic soap and water on your acne prone skin once in the morning and before you go to bed. How Do I Know When To Consult A Doctor When your acne is severe and you experience great discomfort, go to the doctor immediately and ask for acne medicine. Never try to self medicate especially if the flare-ups on your skin are severe. Note that self-medication can cause further damage on your skin instead of making it better. In most cases, doctors will prescribe acne medicine such as benzoyl peroxide and medicated lotion, cream and gels to kill bacteria on the affected areas. These products usually work and your acne will start clear off within a few days. However, there are certain cases where these acne medicines will not work on your skin. In the event where these acne medicines will not work for you, you should go back to your doctor immediately and ask for another form of treatment. When simple treatments no longer work for you, the doctor may prescribe oral antibiotic together with other forms of treatments for your acne. If the acne is really big, the doctor may decide to drain them and put you on oral antibiotic for a few days. In most cases, severe acne will take sometime to cure. It could take about 6 to 8 weeks before the inflammation on your skin will clear up, so be patient. Severe acne may leave scars on the affected areas. In most cases, these scars can be effectively removed through laser treatment. If your acne caused scars and blemishes on your skin, it would be a good idea for you to talk to your dermatologist on how you can get rid of these scars and blemishes.
