These are three songs that I love. I hope you love them too. It's a beautiful thing to spread our love of music around. It's a beautiful thing to help others to appreciate music. If you've heard these songs before I hope you hear them in a new way now. Listening closer than you ever have before. If you haven't heard them before I hope you are awakened to something new in music. A song doesn't have to be on the radio right now or on the soundtrack to some cheesy television show in order to be worth listening to. The Super Furry Animals - "Chewing Chewing Gum" - The Super Furry Animals are one of the most creative musical groups in recent history. They are unfortunately largely unknown in the United States so if this is your first time hearing about them I suggest you go out and get their albums immediately. You may want to start out with 1999's Guerrilla which includes the excellent tune in question "Chewing Chewing Gum." This song like most of the Super Furry's work is unabashedly psychedelic with swirling madness and uncountable layers. This may be the definition of headphone music. The lyrics may be throwaway but the music is splendid. If you're a music person then this song is for you. Electric Light Orchestra - "Mr. Blue Sky" - This is ELO's greatest song. It's catchy. It's psychedelic. It's inventive. This song makes it almost impossible not to smile while listening to it. It could be said that this song combines all of the excesses of the 70s but it somehow combines all of these excesses to pure perfection. Make a song that sounds as good now as is it did 30 years ago. The best example of Jeff Lynne's musical mastery. The Pink Floyd - "Interstellar Overdrive" - I think this is the most insane, most psychedelic song of all time. To me it sounds exactly like a journey into the center of Syd Barrett's mind. Or exactly what I imagine such a journey would sound like. I feel like this song somehow transcends the very barriers of music and becomes something more than merely a song. This is a journey. It's both farther out and farther in than any other song I've ever heard. There are no lyrics because no words could ever really describe where this song goes. This is beyond words. It's mystic. It's mysterious. It's music at it's most experimental and most dangerous. Strap on the headphones and clear your calendar for the next 10 minutes. It's time to go interstellar. New Great Songs. added all the time.
