10 Things To Remember When Traveling By Airplane

By: Auckland Semper Jr

Heightened security measures and long claim lines can make traveling by airplane a challenging task. This article discusses 10 things to remember when traveling by airplane to make the journey easier.

Know what you need to pack and where. Currently the airlines are only permitting passengers to carry on three ounces at most of any liquid or gel-like material. Additionally, the substance needs to be inside a clear container packed inside a transparent baggie. If you wish to bring along anything more, you must check it in. Alternatively you can simply buy it when you get where you're going.

Weigh ahead of time. In order to ensure that your check-on luggage isn't over the weight allowed, no more than fifty pounds, weigh your luggage before getting into the baggage claims line. Remember that carry-on is still your best bet

Plan to arrive early -very early. Most airports have websites that can provide fliers with up-to-date information on the wait time for flights. Typically the current rules is to arrive at lest two hours before the estimated take-off time

Be certain to have the proper ID. Depending on where you are traveling, specific identification may be necessary. Check the national security rules beforehand and leave time to update your identification, if necessary.

Slip-ons Only. It is often a necessity to remove your shoes at security checkpoints. A pair that can be easily slipped on and off is your best bet when flying.

No beverages of any sort, not even the ones bought in the secure area, are allowed onboard the plane. Take care of your thirst by consuming your drink before boarding.

Plan entertaining activities for children traveling with you. Long wait times aren't fun for anyone, even more so for young children. Since restrictions on beverage exist, it is best to bring along fun and distracting activities to keep little ones occupied.

Follow instructions given by airport personnel. The workers at the airport are only doing their job to the best of their ability in order to provide you with a safe flight. Avoid power struggles and just go along with what they tell you.

Airport security will allow passengers to take medications and baby formula when presented with a notice signed by a medical doctor.

Stay positive. Even with the fear of terrorism and the heightened security concerns you are sure to notice at the airport. Remember that life is meant to be lived, and enjoyed.
